M.: SMACK UP AGAIN - how do we have to understand this?

S-Å J.: SMACK UP is one of the compositions we play, by the great saxophone player Harold Land. It´s stilistically speaking Westcoast-music from the era of Cool Jazz.
SMACK UP AGAIN means to confront ourselves with the harmonics/rhythmics of this quite complicated and multi-layered music of the 50´s and 60´s - the avant garde at that time, and a music which I used to play then. I might be known better as free improvising musician, but these were the beginnings. (...) These ´standards´ are part of our musical history and yet as ´modern´ as ever.
