This film is a documentary composition of new
jazz, New York as the city that generates it, and the musicians
playing it.
The thoughts of the saxophonist Charles Gayle and the bass
players William Parker and Peter Kowald from Germany accompany
the film.
Shot on 16 mm, this film remains one of a kind until today.
Somwe of the recorded musicians have passed away - their spirits
live on. This 20th anniversary DVD release of RISING TONES
CROSS preserve some musical moments and images of Don Cherry,
Charles Tyler, Frank Wright, Denis Charles, Jeanne Lee, Wilber
Morris und Peter Kowald.
"There just hasn´t been much documentation of Bohemia
as it really is, and this film rings true on that score and
on many others."
