Bio-, Discographie:

composer, performer and saxophonist, born 1956, started playing the piano at the age of eight and later learned to play the clarinet. He studied literature from 1974 - 1981 in Berlin. From 1986 - 1992 he studied saxophone with Detlef Bensmann at Hochschule der Künste Berlin. As a saxophonist he has performed with Joelle Léandre, Lauren Newton, Ute Döring, Cecil Taylor, Ernst-Ludwig Petrowsky, Johannes Bauer. In 1994 the chamber music ensemble Not Missing Drums Project was founded in collaboration with Thomas Böhm-Christl. The ensemble performs and works in varying constellations crossing into new ground oscillating between improvisation and contemporary composition. Main focus of his compositional activity lies with the expansion of the saxophone´s sound world and the expressive qualities of the human voice. In 1999 a solo composition "About Conditions To Feel Time" for alto saxophone with mute was published. In spring 2001 "Klangspuren / Soundtraces"- an introduction to contemporary playing techniques for alto- and tenor saxophones was published. The book with many annotations and exercises also includes a Demo CD with Joachim Gies playing "seven studies in sound" dedicated to the techniques introduced. The author would like to contribute to the incorporation of modern techniques into regular saxophone tuition on all levels rather than having them regarded as a specialised field for advanced players. In October 2000 the project "Gay Avantgarde. Friedrich Nietzsche for contemporaries" received its first performance. The release of a live - recording is set for autumn 2001.
